Our CH team have been volunteering at Thrive
Eleven of our Consumer Health team used their volunteering day at Thrive, a Reading based charity that uses gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable.
As part of our efforts to support sustainability both environmentally and societally, our purpose for the day was to help Thrive prepare for their annual Flower Show – an event for their clients to showcase their efforts for the year and celebrate their success via competitions for best vegetable, best flower etc
Located a couple of miles from our Reading office at Thrive’s Trunkwell House, our task was to weed, cut back overgrown areas and sand & oil garden furniture, ensuring the garden was at its very best for the show.
It was fantastic to support a local charity. We were able to meet and work with Thrive’s clients and permanent volunteers and understand more about their story, why they loved Thrive and the benefits it brought to their lives.
Well done to everyone involved. At Bayer, we have a global commitment on sustainability, with a focus on creating both environmental and societal change. Through the paid volunteering day opportunities available to permanent employees, the Consumer Health team have chosen to support Thrive to further bring these goals to life at a local level.
All Bayer employed staff are entitled to take a paid volunteering day and we encourage you to use it, in agreement with your line manager. This year there are also two additional days for volunteering on projects that support Ukrainian refugees in the UK. If you would like to use the day to do something with colleagues do get in touch with Gillian Pinnock for suggestions of Charities that Bayer has relationships with.
