The annual award celebrates employers who can showcase their commitment, contribution and success that apprenticeships have brought to their organization.

Bayer’s apprenticeship scheme offers young people the opportunity to learn, gain hands on experience and develop new skills, all whilst earning a competitive salary and working towards recognised qualifications.

Running since 2013, 33 apprentices have successfully completed the 15-18 month programme which runs across all areas of the business. Not only does it give the apprentices hands-on experience, tools and mentorship within a global organisation, but provides a powerful building block for a successful career within or outside Bayer.

Developing our leaders of tomorrow
The apprenticeship scheme is central to Bayer’s commitment to developing young talent and creating our leaders of tomorrow. Above all, it provides a great platform for apprentices to bring their fresh, innovative and creative ideas to Bayer.

Andrew Blunt, Inventory Analyst, started his career as a 2015 apprentice.  He said:
“I was just 19 when I started my apprenticeship with Bayer. During the time, I really found my identity, discovered my strengths and weaknesses and learnt a huge amount about how an international healthcare company operates. It was a time of learning, growth and enjoyment. Thanks to the scheme, I was able to secure a full-time position at Bayer.  I’ve since used my knowledge to get involved in SAP changes, divestments and warehouse changes. I would highly recommend the scheme to anyone”.

Bayer has also been recognized by training provider WBTC who partner with Bayer on the scheme. The consortium has given Bayer the ‘Investment In Training’ award in recognition of its approach to hands-on training and development and the contribution that it makes to train, develop and nurture young talent.

Matt Garvey, Managing Director, WBTC said:
“Employers like Bayer have made apprenticeships a strategic tool for attracting, retaining and promoting new talent. WBTC as an apprenticeship provider has enjoyed a long and successful partnership with Bayer. Our annual awards are just one way we recognise the outstanding contribution of companies like Bayer to the development of apprenticeships”.

Melissa Strong who manages the Apprenticeship scheme at Bayer said:
“We are absolutely delighted that the opportunities we offer our apprentices, coupled with the hard work and dedication that goes in to developing young talent within the organization, continues to be recognized. Winning Large Employer of the Year is a great achievement and reflects the hard work of everyone involved”.
