What’s New in Baylab - May 2023

Baylab Young Scientists

We welcome you into the Summer Term here at Baylab where we have a full programme of workshops booked to keep us occupied until the end of July. This term will also see us welcome our 10,000th student to the lab, since its inception in 2017.

Science week this year was 10-19th March and together with our usual workshops, we hosted a Business Breakfast with STEM Learning and some of our science-based colleagues. We work closely with STEM learning and help equip many of our STEM ambassadors as they bring a slice of the Baylab into schools up and down the country.

Over the Easter break we welcomed staff and students from Berkshire Vision. They joined us in the lab for two sessions looking at the science of bees and honey. The focus for our practical activities was very much on smell and touch and we found a very receptive audience for our spiky varroa mite!

Both our Lab Coat and Packaging competitions are now closed but we have been blown away by the intricacy and novelty of the entries. Science and creativity have been blended together to create some amazing ideas. Judging is already proving difficult, but the final decisions will be on the website at https://www.bayer.co.uk/en/baylab/competitions by the end of this month.

Bookings for the Autumn Term and our hands-on, interactive workshops are now open. If you weren’t on the waiting list, then please get in touch with baylabinfo@bayer.com as we may still be able to accommodate you. We are offering more half day workshops this term, which we hope will help decrease coach costs and enable more of you to get here. Please let us know your opinion!
