Work Experience Week Student Takeover
Baylab inspires young minds and opens the doors to life science careers. This week is no different with the launch of an exciting new work experience program. 11 students from local schools will be spending the week with us to learn from colleagues across the business, take part in projects and getting hands on with science in the lab.
Students from local schools spent the week with us to learn from all parts of our business, take part in projects and get hands on with science in the lab.
At the end of their work experience week, they reflected on what they’ve learnt in our Reading office and on the farm. Here, in their own words, is their experience…
“On Tuesday we got an insight into the life science sector. It was great to understand different careers. I liked the clinical trials aspect, especially the way the teams work together.”
“On day two we learned and experienced various things, our favourite experiences include the lip balm formulation, the DNA extraction and using micro-pipettes with full access to the Baylab facilities. We liked it a lot!”
“On Wednesday I liked having lunch with the CEO of Bayer UK & Ireland, Antonio Payano. We got to ask him interesting questions and find out more about Bayer’s background as well as his.”
“On Thursday we were fortunate enough to visit the Bayer farm and learn about Bayer’s Crop Science division. Whilst walking the farm we heard about the great mystery that is puzzling farmers: ‘What on earth is eating the experimental cauliflowers?’ Then they set us a challenge to match chemically treated seeds to the crops they would become – some of them were very surprising! 😊”
“Thank you Bayer and thank you Emma Schierbaum (Baylab manager)for organising such a unique week it has been such an amazing experience.”
We are hoping to repeat this week twice in 2023. If you are interested in your students, son/daughter attending one of these weeks please complete the following form.
